Atomy donates KRW 3.3 billion to establish the PMC-Atomy Jesus Hospital

Business as Mission to carry on until the love of God reaches all of humanity

Atomy and Jesus Hospital in Jeonju are jointly establishing the PMC-Atomy Jesus Hospital in Cambodia. Atomy announced that a donation ceremony was held at the Success Academy on April 14 to mark the donation of KRW 3.3 billion to the Presbyterian Medical Center Foundation. At the Atomy Success Academy, Atomy Chairman Park Han-gill and Jeonju Jesus Hospital Director Sin Chung-sik were joined by more than 20,000 members from all over Korea and overseas branches to take part in the donation ceremony, both in person and virtually. “Jeonju Jesus Hospital was established in 1898 by missionary Mattie Ingold, and has welcomed local residents and treated patients with the love of Christ for 124 years. Now, thanks to Atomy’s active support, this love can spread to Cambodia,” explained Director Sin Chung-sik.

According to Jeonju Jesus Hospital, hospitals in Cambodia suffer from insufficient capacity, with bed occupancy rates currently exceeding 100%. In 2016, there were 10,870 hospital beds, which corresponds to only 0.84 beds per 1,000 people. There is a shortage of public hospitals that can provide modern medical services to the general public.

The PMC-Atomy Jesus Hospital aims to provide the best medical care, cultivate Christian healthcare workers and next-generation leaders, and continue running missions. This donation from Atomy will primarily be used to supply Jesus Hospital in Cambodia with advanced medical equipment and systems. It will also be used to train medical staff, provide favorable healthcare environments, and support the underprivileged with their medical expenses by providing free health check-ups and vision care. “Together, Atomy and PMC are realizing a dream that someone had 124 years ago,” said one deeply-moved PMC representative.

In March, Atomy also donated KRW 2.1 billion to the People for Medical Cooperation International (PMCI), an NGO in which Jeonju Jesus Hospital doctors play a central role. Founded in 2005, PMCI is a non-profit organization that aims to bring progress to underdeveloped areas by volunteering its medical services. Current projects include ▲human resource development, ▲social, cultural, and educational international exchanges, and ▲international exchanges in the health and environmental fields. One special area of focus for the organization is the development of human resource capabilities by training and dispatching specialized personnel to countries with underdeveloped healthcare services, in addition to providing support for foreign workers in Korea. Since signing a memorandum of understanding for mutual cooperation with PMCI in 2020, Atomy has worked closely with PMCI by donating mobile clinic buses in Cambodia, among other activities.

Slated to open this October, the PMC-Atomy Jesus Hospital will work with PMCI to create more effective healthcare systems by collecting medical big data across Cambodia and developing systems for cooperation with other medical facilities. Additionally, Atomy hopes to provide comprehensive support to medical missions by converting the PMCI mobile clinic team into hospital staff through training and developing networks with local health centers.

Since then, the company has been working with medical missions on various initiatives, including the allocation of funds to establish a public pediatric rehabilitation center.
