President Park was operating the fork lift to deliver the crate full of cash to Doug-Woo Lee, which amounted to 1 billion KRW.What mixed emotions must have run through Lee at the time? If you imagined Lee to be full of tears as his memories flashed before his eyes, you couldn't be more wrong. Lee recalls, "Yes, I was happy, but I think I was more sad." Why was he so sad? Was it because his prize money was small? Or was it because the stage he was on wasn't flashy? Not at all. He was sad because he had reached the top too fast, so he didn't have a rank to work towards anymore. Lee said, "I was sad because I no longer had a rank to look to." He sighed as he said, "Global Atomy has only just started..."

When Lee first joined Atomy, it didn't have a website or catalog, needless to say even an office. It only had two products as well. But Lee says that his heart raced nevertheless. "My partners said that my face shined. It is a miracle if you can't succeed after finding Atomy. It also helps with building relationships, and I think that contributed a lot to my success in Atomy."

That is why IM Doug-Woo Lee is harsh on those who want to quit Atomy easily just because it is difficult. Atomy business still has unlimited potential. There are still markets all over the world, in which Atomy has not reached yet. No matter how many times you get rejected and experience failure, as long as you remain in Atomy, there is still plenty of chance for you to succeed. However, if you leave Atomy, you will lose all possibility of succeeding. "If you can get an income of 2 million to 3 million KRW a month, then you have already succeeded. Your life after retirement is ensured. Imagine receiving that money even when you are 80 or 100 years old, actually until you die. What kind of job ensures this?"

Empty your bucket list

It is interesting to hear IM Lee say that his emotions during good and exciting times were the same as during frightening and anxious times. "The best moment was when I had become a Star Master. I was happiest whenI was promoted to Sharon Master then to Star Master and was able to receive 10 million KRW a month. It was also when I was most anxious. I was worried that Atomy was going to go bankrupt. I didn't know if I could make it to Royal Master. As long as Atomy stands strong, no matter how many times Doug-Woo Lee falls, he can get back up again. But what if Atomy disappears? Then everything that Lee had achieved would turn into oblivion. It seemsLee was not immune to such worries as well ,even when he was on his way to the top.

Imperial Master Doug-Woo Lee says that he has nothing left in his bucket list. He says he's done everything that he's wanted to do since having become an Imperial Master. "I've done it all - table tennis, pool, tennis, jazz piano, mountain biking, golf, swimming, and trekking the world. I wanted to try skin diving and hang gliding, but I gave up on those two (laughs)." Lee says he gave up on those two because it was dangerous. He says he gave up because of his fear of sharks and fatal accidents.

The only thing left for me is 'to live,' 'to love,' 'to learn,' and 'to contribute'. " I would give myself full marks in all these categories, except for the category of 'to contribute'. I would give myself a 5 in that category. I want to make SOS (Atomy members' volunteer group)the best volunteer group in Korea, and in the world." Lee does his part in giving back to the society. He donates to volunteer groups such as UNICEF, and he is also involved in Atomy's SOS activities. It's just that he feels like he doesn't meet his own standards. "I believe engaging in Atomy business is also part of contributing to the society because it is work which helps other partners succeed."

Atomy means the whole world to IM Doug-Woo Lee. If he didn't find Atomy, he would not have been able turn his life around; nor would he have been able to live out his dream. "Atomy is what I need most, and it is here when I am most happy. In other words, I belong in Atomy."
